NEWS FROM HOME: KAOHSIUNG - TAIWAN
EXHIBITION: APRIL 13 to 21, 2024, P3-1 Warehouse, Dayong Area, Pier-2 Art Center
RESIDENCY PERIOD: FEB 5 - APRIL 30 2024
News From Home is an ongoing project by the artist duo Anne Fehres and Luke Conroy, capturing overlooked stories from communities (see previous editions of the project here). The 11th edition of this project took place during a 3-month artist-residency in Kaohsiung, Taiwan as part of the Pier-2 Art Centre Residency Program.
In News From Home explores the overlooked or omitted stories of a community through in-depth research, community collaboration and observations. This edition will be based upon the specific context of Kaohsiung, exploring this location through a series of photomontage works. These works aim to unveil the multi-layered essence of the local community, interweaving our own interpretations with those of the viewers.
Central to our creative process is the use of collage/montage, a method that lies at the heart of our artistic practice. By gathering and reassembling a variety of images, research, and observations from within the community, we craft collages that not only reinterpret these fragments but also place them in new, often hybrid contexts. This approach enables us and the communities we engage with to visualize societal contradictions, challenge static identities, and offer fresh perspectives on cultural identity and historical narratives.
